Nice little house, cedar sided, located on quiet street with lots of woods. Already occupied with cute little nest and 5 eggs.

Newer construction, located slightly further back from the road. Quiet location, brand new and just waiting for a perfect couple!

Yesterday we noticed a pair of bluebirds checking out our blue bird house located in the front yard. Unfortunately, a chickadee had already claimed the space by building a nest and laying her eggs. As a matter a fact, there are now five eggs in the nest.

So, we put up another house in hopes of attracting the blue birds over there. Well, they checked it out, then promptly went back to other house. Taking turns both would fly down to the entrance and peer in but neither would actually go inside.

This morning they started the business of staking their claim again. They both would fly to the top of the house and take turns flying down to look in the entrance hole. Finally, after doing this several times, the female got enough nerve to actually go all the way in. She then started to bring out pieces of fur that lined the chickadee nest. Flying to a nearby tree she would clean her beak on a limb to dislodge the fur. I worried she was going to break the chickadee eggs but as it turns out bluebirds will actually build their nest on top of a chickadee nest. She'll lay her eggs on top those already in the nest.

What I don't know is, will the chickadee eggs hatch along with the bluebirds? Perhaps this will be a blended family??
